St Patricks Day

At the most happening spot of town, KRABIDIVERS.com is hosting our first St Patrick's Day party celebrated worldwide on March 17th every year...But our party starts on SUNDAY MARCH 16TH, 2008!

Right in the heart of Ao Nang, the lovely beachfronted seaside town centre of Krabi, we are on the ground floor of the Sea of Love Plaza, which is the most happening spot in town. To find us, just look out for McDonalds, Swenson's and Star Bucks just across the street from where we are. Come to the Plaza and you will find us upfront at the main atrium.

Our party begins on March 16th - the night before St Patrick's Day - starting the moment our divers return from their day's diving - and will last all night, and all morning - and probably, all night long again.... So, if you are living in or visiting Krabi, pop over and join us for some all night music, food and of course, loads of drink. We promise you the cheapest beer in town!

Bring your friends. Everyone is welcome! It's a date - see you there!

Snorkelling at Krabi National Marine Park

Posted in Articles, Events, News |

We didn't expect to see so much from a simple half day snorkelling trip - turtles, box fish, razor fish and lots more...What was most interesting was that we could snorkel right through several overhanging rocks and into some caves created by the national rock formations. Krabi is probably one of the prettiest spots in Thailand and offers so much to the traveller. We had never seen so many fishes. And the water is very warm and comfortable at 29'deg'C!

We booked with www.KrabiDivers.com for our day out. They came to the hotel to pick us up. Taking off from Naphorat Pier just 5 minutes from the beachside town of Ao Nang, we hopped onto a quaint traditional long-tail boat that took us out to the big boat. Thereafter, it was just a 15 minute ride out on the sundeck as we soaked in some glorious sunshine with the warm sea breeze in our faces.  And for the next 4 hours, we were treated to several snorkel spots off the Krabi National Marine Park which features numerous limestone mountains that sit proudly in the water. After a wonderful afternoon, we were taken by longtail back to the pier and then back to the hotel. All this for a great afternoon, and reasonably priced at only 1,000 baht (about 20 Euros). The crew on the KrabiDivers.com boat were really friendly and fun and we had a wonderful time.

Where Humans Live, The Corals Fail

Posted in Articles, Events, News |

The world’s coral reefs are in alarming decline, and a recent groundbreaking study singles out human settlement, especially coastal development and agriculture, as the main culprit, even more so than warming sea waters and acidification linked to global warming.

The study found that declining reefs are endangering species of wildlife as well as tourism and fishing, which are vital for the local economy”, says Camilo Mora, of Dalhousie University in Halifax, Canada. This meant continuing degradation of coral reefs may be soon beyond repair. And there certainly won’t be enough time for second or third chances.

Dreamhost Site of the Month

Thousands of new websites get created everyday. When we designed the KrabiDivers.com website, we wanted it to reflect the professionalism, high service quality, love of the water and absolute pleasure of diving - we believe we achieved that. But we sure didn't expect to become DreamHost's top website!

DreamHost is the host server for thousands of websites from all over the world. We gave our webmaster Eric a simple brief - make the website come alive and show our customers from the globe just how wonderful a sport scuba diving is. Eric put his genius to work, and in a matter of weeks, put KrabiDivers.com and our website onto the map of the world!

If you haven't seen our website, come visit www.KrabiDivers.com - tell us what you think honestly. If there is stuff you want to see on our web pages, let us know info@krabidivers.com. Or give us ideas on how we can improve, tell us about it. And if you like what you see, we want to hear about that too! We welcome all honest feedback!!!

Resident of Krabi - Yellow Tiger-Tail Seahorse

Posted in Articles, Events, News |

Tiger-tailed Sea HorseRinging in good tidings for the new year, a newly immigrated resident to Krabi was spotted by one of our KrabiDivers.com instructors on New Year's Day. At 4-cm long, he appears pregnant. Yes, "he" was pregnant as the male in this species are the ones to get pregnant and productive!

Krabi, south of Thailand, is the gateway to the famous Andaman Sea where scuba divers and snorkellors from all over the world convene as winter approaches in the western world. Famous for its incredible waters, great visibility and huge variety of dive terrain, Krabi is a must-stop for all nature and water lovers on vacation in Asia. KrabiDivers.com operates the premier scuba-diving and eco-tourism center in the heart of Aonang, the sea-side town of Krabi. Here, you can launch off to the amazing Similans, Richelieu Rock, Phi Phi islands, Phuket and Lanta. And lets not forget the relatively unexplored local Krabi waters where the caves and caverns provide a great underwater adventure. And here is where we found our Tiger-Tailed Seahorse on New Year's Day!

Seahorses are amazing creatures. The seahorse is one of four families in the syngnathiform family which also includes pipefish, flag-tail pipefish and seadragons. They swim in an upright position with their tails down and their heads up using their dorsal to move forward and pectoral fins for steering control. Also unique for their prehensile tail (able to twist & grasp),tube-like mouth (with no teeth), and small gill openings. Seahorses (like chameleons) can even move their two eyes independently of each other.
